Move-out cleaning prices in 2026: real examples

Vaskeladden's price list starts at 3,500 NOK including VAT for 30 sqm or less. A price example for 60 sqm is 5,750 NOK, while 100 sqm is 8,417 NOK. These are our own dated reference points for a normal price range, not a market estimate. The fixed price in the booking also depends on postal code, date, cleaning type, and add-ons.

How much does move-out cleaning cost per square metre?

A flat price per square metre is misleading. The minimum price makes small homes more expensive per square metre, while larger homes get a lower price per square metre because setup and transport are distributed across more square metres. In our reference table, 30 sqm corresponds to roughly 117 NOK/sqm, while 150 sqm corresponds to roughly 76 NOK/sqm.

Limescale, grease, or worn floors do not automatically change a booked fixed price. Tasks beyond the normal scope must be described and agreed upon before the job. What is included in move-out cleaning – and what costs extra?

The written quote always determines the scope. The points below describe Vaskeladden's standard as of 12 September 2026. Other providers may have a different list.

Standard move-out cleaning covers the entire emptied home, with one kitchen. Cabinets and drawers are cleaned inside and out. Appliances are cleaned where they stand, inside and out, and the oven is cleaned to the best of our ability. Windows are washed on both sides where the cleaner can reach safely, normally up to approximately 300 cm. Walls and ceilings are dry mopped.

These are examples of add-ons that may appear in the quote:

1. Storage unit interior – 700 NOK including VAT.
2. Open balcony – 700 NOK including VAT.
3. Garage – 1,000 NOK for single and 1,500 NOK for double, including VAT.
4. Fireplace or wood stove – 800 NOK including VAT.
5. Cleaning grout in the shower area – priced separately in the quote.
6. Driving – either a fixed fee of NOK 200 per assignment or included in the quoted fixed price. The quote shows which variant applies.

The cleaner does not move heavy appliances or other objects. If you want it cleaned behind them, you must pull them forward before work starts. Ask for the quote to specify all add-ons. If you need to clean the windows yourself, we have a guide for streak-free windows.

Why is a very cheap move-out cleaning a red flag?

For employees over 18 in private cleaning companies, the universally applied minimum wage is 236.54 NOK per hour from 15 June 2025, according to the Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority's current rate. When the job is performed by employees, the employer also has expenses for employer's National Insurance contributions, equipment, transport, and insurance.

If you see a quote of 1,500–2,500 NOK for an entire apartment, you should check the scope, registration, and working conditions. Price alone does not show what someone is paid or whether the work is legal. The Norwegian Labour Inspection Authority states that both businesses and private individuals may only purchase cleaning services from approved enterprises.

Always check that the provider has legal status in the public register before ordering. "Godkjent", "Søknad under behandling", and "HMS-kortbestilling under behandling" are legal statuses. Approval requires HMS cards for everyone performing cleaning work, including sole proprietors working alone. Businesses with employees must also have an agreement with an approved occupational health service. Norway does not have a general or dedicated tax deduction for ordinary private move-out cleaning, but a narrow transitional rule for medical expenses may apply in older cases; ask the Norwegian Tax Administration if it might be relevant to you.

Should I clean myself or hire an agency?

If you do it yourself, you save the labour cost, but must set aside a full working day or two. If you order, you buy both the work and an agreed path to rectifying issues if the cleaning is not approved.

Vaskeladden's hand-over guarantee has no day limit. The complaint window is open until the new owner or landlord has approved the hand-over. If the cleaning is not approved, we return and rectify the agreed points at no extra cost. Other providers may have different terms, so read the contract before ordering.

Who pays for move-out cleaning when renting and selling?

When renting, the tenant is responsible for handing over the home tidy and cleaned upon moving out. Unless specified otherwise in the contract, you as a tenant must clean yourself or cover the cost of move-out cleaning. If you do a poor job, the landlord can deduct the cost from the deposit – and that often ends up more expensive than if you had ordered a professional job from the start.

When selling a home, the seller normally arranges move-out cleaning before hand-over, ensuring the buyer gets a clean home. Details are agreed upon in the purchase contract, so read it carefully. A receipted quote from an approved enterprise is good documentation should any disagreement arise regarding the standard.

How to get the right price

Request quotes from two or three approved providers. Specify the exact area, number of rooms, number of windows, and whether you need extra services such as oven and exterior window cleaning. That way, the agency can give you a fixed price instead of a loose estimate, helping you avoid surprises on the invoice.
